A simple task like walking without falling makes a huge difference once a person gets to a certain age. That’s why when the Hebrew Home at Riverdale, of Bronx, NY, made zero falls in parts of their community a reality, it was such a milestone.
To do so, they enlisted the help of the ZeroG gait and balance system. Safe to say, their collaboration was a success as Hebrew Home won Gold in the Innovator of the Year category in the Skilled Nursing track at the 2022 McKnight’s Tech Awards.
The ZeroG system is an artificial intelligence-powered dynamic body-weight support system, which assists the resident in practicing sitting to standing, walking, stairs, without the risk of fall. The system is a ceiling track mounted machine, connected via harness to the resident. This allows for earlier functional mobilization while providing the resident the reassurance to reduce the fear of falling.
Since implementation of the Zero G, the Hebrew Homes team has also documented improvement in gait velocity and balance, as noted via standardized test.
The other winners in the Innovator of the Year category of the Skilled Nursing track were:
• Silver: Ecumen, of Shoreview, MN, for its use of Infection Management & ABX Stewardship software.
• Bronze: Cypress Living, of Fort Myers, FL, for its use of Microsoft Forms and Microsoft Power Automation.
